The historic Bardavon Building located in the heart of the Dutchess County and the City of Poughkeepsie. This iconic 23,568 square foot 5-story multi-tenant office and retail building is located on Market Street across from the Dutchess County Courthouse. The building sits on a .12 acre parcel zoned Historic Core (HC) and within the Poughkeepsie Innovation District (PID). The purpose of the district is to revitalize the the City of Poughkeepsie's historic Central Business District through the fostering of a walkable mixed-use neighborhoods. Originally built in 1869, the exterior image of the building is often seen as the face of the region for tourism, marketing and general county related marketing collateral. A portion of the main level is home to the Bardavon Box office. The remaining ground floor space is leased to two food establishments and a common entrance to the upper level offices. Access to events at the Bardavon, officially located at 35 Market Street, is through the main level doors of the subject property by easement right. The 2nd-5th floors, occupied by various long standing office tenants, have elevator access from the main level entrance. The brick and interior wood framed structure is well maintained and serviced by municipal water, sewer and natural gas. The building was registered on the national registry of historic places in 1977. The facade of the five-story building is brick with a flat roof. It has a 12-bay front. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors have the original cast-iron arched lintels and cast-iron rectangular projecting sills. The 5th floor has its original lintels with bracketing underneath to mark the transition to the heavy cast-iron cornice above with appropriately heavy bracketing. The rear wall to the east has 12-bays with smooth sandstone lintels and rough-hewn stone sills. All of this is the original design.
